Samsung Galaxy Note 8 smartphone was launched in August 2017. Upon its release, Samsung was under pressure to perfect Samsung Note 8 because the previous Galaxy was recalled due to battery issues. In fact, there were some cases of exploding handsets to some users as a result of battery problems. Although some features of Samsung Galaxy Note 8 are similar to those of Galaxy S8 family, it maintains its own identity.

Here are some features of the Galaxy Note 8…

Dual Cameras

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Cameras

Galaxy Note 8 is the first Samsung device to have dual cameras. The dual camera system has optical image stabilization in both lenses making images from both lenses look crisp and sharp in most lighting conditions. The dual camera has two 12 megapixel sensors with the main sensor having a wide angel lens, super-fast dual pixel auto focus and f/1.7 aperture. On the other hand, the secondary sensor is mainly a telephoto lens that have f/2.4 aperture enabling you to get up to 2X optical zoom and 10X digital zoom.

The second sensor of the camera facilitates the use of depth of field effects, similar to what DSLR cameras can do. The live focus feature helps you adjust field depth either when previewing the shot or after the shot is taken. It is important to note that, with dual capture mode, you can take two images simultaneously using both lenses. You can therefore shoot a picture and then choose the one you like later on rather than switching between lenses to get the picture you want.

Finally, Note 8 has optical image stabilization (OIS) on both telephoto and wide angle lens facilitating sharp shots of moving objects e.g. people running, kids, lightening etc.

Infinity display

Note 8 comes with a 6.3 inch display touchscreen which has a resolution of 1440 pixels by 2960 pixels (521 ppi pixel density). It comes packed with a giant Quad HD Super AMOLED Infinity Display that brings vibrant black and rich colors as well as a deeply immersive experience. The phone has 18.5:9 aspect ratio making it easy to have the phone by hand even though it has a large display.

Moreover, according to DisplayMate, Samsung’s Note 8 sports a record-breaking brightness. Their tests show that the Note 8 is brighter than its younger brother, the Galaxy S8, by 22 percent.

The Processors

Samsung Note 8 is powered by 1.7 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor (US) or Exynos 8895 (the rest of the world). The phone comes with 6GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, although the storage can be expanded to 256 GB using a micro-SD card.

Bluetooth 5 and Gigabit LTE

Bluetooth 5 offers simple and secure connectivity with 2x speed, 4x range and 8x broadcasting message capacity. Gigabit LTE on the other hand facilitates maximum LTE speeds to 1Gbps. In addition to faster data speeds, Gigabit LTE offers 4K video streaming, High definition video calling, streaming content in VR and instant access to video content either on demand or for faster access to cloud storage.

Live messaging

The main objective of live messaging is to be creative and make messaging more fun because it is a GIF maker and you can draw or write anything you want. The drawing or text will animate upon being sent to add effects e.g. sparkles. Later on, this can be shared to anyone just as a regular GIF without the need of a specialized messaging app or service.

The S Pen

S Pen

The S pen is regarded as a traveling ace because when you come across a website in a foreign language, the S Pen Translate feature allows you to hover over the text to translate it. The feature does not translate individual words but the whole paragraph in astonishing 71 languages. The feature is also used to convert units and foreign currencies.

The S pen tip diameter is 0.7 mm and it can be used in:

  • Samsung Notes
  • Screen off memo

  • Screen write
  • Live messaging
  • Translate

App pair

App pair is a time saving feature which makes the use of the device fast and easy. The shortcut icon can be placed in the Apps Edge or on the home screen depending with the user preference. For instance, you can pair YouTube and Chrome, Gmail and Hangouts or another combination depending on how you want the apps to run or how you use them.
